Public information shows that Medtronic, Johnson, Stryker and other orthopedic giants have acquired technology sources through the acquisition of orthopedic surgery robot companies to complete the layout of the orthopedic surgery robot industry.
Among them, Stryker's achievements are the most outstanding. In 2013, Stryker acquired Mako Surgical for $1.6 billion. On May 5, 2021, Stryker's president of joint replacement, Don Payerle, announced that the number of robotic surgeries performed using Mako exceeded 500000.
Yang Zhenjun said, "Overseas we have seen several major orthopedic companies have gone to acquire robotics companies, ranging from hundreds of millions to billions of dollars. This is based on the fact that these large consumables companies have formed a relatively large and stable market share at the global level." "In China, however, orthopedic consumables companies have not formed a relative monopoly, for example, the highest share in the joint sector may be more than ten percent of the market share. So according to our understanding, it is the surgical robot company that has the opportunity to reverse the acquisition of consumables companies."
In addition, Yang Zhenjun believes that the future trend of domestic surgical robot commercialization is to build a closed loop around "equipment consumables service", and the internal closed platform will touch the incremental ceiling. In the era of human-computer interaction, surgical robots take platform as a major trend, focusing on intelligence, consumables, core components and other directions.
